21 Reasons Why Squarespace Is Ideal For Small Business

Trying to figure out the best website building platform for your small business? Showit vs. Squarespace, Squarespace vs. WordPress — with all the choices out there, the overwhelm is real.

No platform is all things to everyone, but I’ve been creating websites since before Squarespace existed, and I’ll show you why I believe Squarespace is the best website builder to serve the needs of small business and service providers.

TLDR? Here’s a quick rundown:

Native domain hosting (Squarespace purchased Google domains) or external hosting - your choice

Relies on native tools (vs. cost, time, & troubleshooting of managing non-native plugins)

Codeless integrations with Meta and Pinterest pixels for running paid ads

Pretty impressive stack, right? 🤩 In a nutshell, this is a platform worth your consideration because:

Squarespace empowers small business owners & service providers to design, manage, and update their own websites

You need to decide what will serve YOUR business best though, so let’s take a closer look at some of the 21 points listed above:

01 — Squarespace is easy to use, so working on your site is fun, not intimidating

Your website needs to do the heavy lifting of communicating to the world what your business is all about. And it needs to look ahh-mazing while doing it!

You know what else? It needs to be easy.

If you’re bogged down in complicated tech hassles, one of two things will happen:

  1. It will hold back your growth. If you’re spending hours and days trying to figure out how to get your site to do what you want it to do, this will hold you back because time spent on tricky tech is time away from building your business.

  2. You will have to hire a web developer. BTW - this also takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money. Time and money spent on outsourcing web development is time and money taken away from actually building your business.

What’s the antidote? Squarespace!

Squarespace is renowned for it’s user-friendly interface and intuitive drag-and-drop design tools.

You can create your entire website without doing any coding in Squarespace.

It’s a top choice for non-techie business owners who want a polished, professional website without the tech hassle.

You can get a free trial to see for yourself! (Pssst…plus if you need more time on your trial, just email Squarespace and they’ll extend it for you.)

Squarespace's user-friendly interface and minimalist backend makes creating your site easy and fun.

02 — Squarespace is an all-in-one platform so you don’t have to troubleshoot (& pay) for outside extras to make your site work

Squarespace comes packed with everything you need to get a website up and running quickly.

Regular website development projects can take months, and complicated website-builder platforms can take weeks to get going, but your Squarespace site can be live in days.

This is because Squarespace has taken care of hosting, domain, templates, features, security, analytics dashboard, SEO tools, ecommerce - basically every aspect of your website is under one roof.

This means its your workflow is simplified because everything is in one place and it all works seamlessly because it has been designed to work together. (This is very different from platforms that rely on outside integrations like WordPress and Showit.)

But wait, there’s more!

In addition to your website, Squarespace even has additional services to make running a small business seamless.

Squarespace now has a CRM for service providers that sends branded invoices, tracks payments, and does simple project management - all included on a business plan.

Squarespace also offers additional service app integrations and extensions.

In a few clicks, you can easily connect your website with Acuity Scheduling for automated appointments, Zapier to connect your apps, FreshBooks for accounting, TikTok Shop by ShoppeDance, Amazon, UPS, USPS, FedEx, PayPal, ApplePay, and many more.

Check out all of the Squarespace app integrations.

Check out all the Squarespace extensions.

Opening your digital or physical ecommerce shop only takes a couple clicks to start and comes standard with the basic business plan.

03 - Squarespace is an excellent value so you have more funds to spend elsewhere

The Business Plan is $23/month when purchased annually. Along with everything else, it even includes ecommerce. Yep - your online store is open for business with a couple clicks on a basic Business plan.

Any Squarespace plan also includes unlimited storage and there’s no additional cost when your traffic increases (ahem - we’re looking at you again, Showit).

04 - Squarespace has stellar 24/7 support so there’s no stress if you get stuck

Squarespace has award-winning help. Seriously. I always find myself comparing the help on other apps and software to Squarespace Help and wishing it were as good.

Here’s the rundown:

Squarespace Help Center - this usually covers it. They have really user-friendly help topics and videos.

Email - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Live chat

  • Monday-Friday: 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET

X (Formerly known as Twitter)

  • 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Facebook Messenger

  • 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Also, your Squarespace backend has one-keystroke Help function. Just click the forward slash key, “/” on your screen (exit Edit mode first) and the Help pop-up will appear like your own magic website genie!

Squarespace help can be accessed as easily has hitting the forward slash key on your keyboard.

05 - Squarespace’s SEO gets you found by your ideal clients

SEO (search engine optimization) may sound intimidating but it’s actually quite easy. It’s just a series of steps you take to help your site get discovered by search engines. Once you get used to doing the steps, it becomes second nature.

So think of SEO as an SOP for ranking in Google. That’s really all it is. 😊

Squarespace makes ranking in search much easier by including a lot of built-in SEO functionality. This means you don’t need to worry about the more technical side of SEO. Instead, you can focus on the step-by-step of optimizing your content so your website visitors and search engine crawlers understand what your website is about.

BLOGGING

If you’re a service provider or small business, blogging is a key strategy for ranking in search. Squarespace has the simplest blog setup on the market - a couple clicks and you’re good to go.

Does blogging really work? This is what happened when I launched my Squarespace home and garden blog:

  • When my website was only 2 weeks old, my blog post hit page 2 of Google in about 2 weeks - and it’s still on Page 1 of Google today even though I haven’t posted to that website in over two years

  • I started ranking on page one of Google with different blog posts within a few months

  • In 12 months, I was at 33,000 page views per month

Bottom line: SEO works, and Squarespace simplifies it.

06 - Squarespace has excellent site security so don’t have to do any updates or maintenance. Zero. Nada.

This is another area where Squarespace really shines.

Your Squarespace website doesn’t require ANY security updates, software updates, or maintenance. Squarespace’s team maintains its system, so you don’t have to.

Squarespace is a “closed” system, developed by an internal development team. This means the code isn’t accessible to the public which makes it much more difficult for hackers to find security vulnerabilities and exploit them.

Another benefit is Squarespace comes with automatic SSL certificates - a data file providing an encrypted connection.

Fun fact: If you don’t have an SSL certificate, Google will penalize your site for it.

This is a major benefit (and a stark contrast) to WordPress or WordPress-backed platforms like Showit where you have to regularly do updates to keep your website secure from hackers (or pay someone else to do it) and get your own SSL certificates.

In fact, I know many WordPress users who recommend updating and backing up their sites every. single. day. Many of them also keep developers on retainer to stay on top of security updates.

As a Squarespace user, you won’t even know what they’re talking about, much less have to worry about it.😍

07 - Squarespace sites are automatically mobile-responsive so your site’s looking great for your 60% + mobile traffic

Have you ever visited a website on your phone and noticed some things look well…strange?

Text so small you can barely read it, images covering up text so you can’t read even if it is the right size, things are too big, too small…

This is never an issue with Squarespace sites. Squarespace has built-in responsive design. This means it automatically resizes your content to fit different devices and screen widths.

The Squarespace interface has a Preview Tab that lets you toggle between desktop and mobile views so you can check out how your site looks on each.

Then you can drag and drop to get your mobile view looking how you want it.

No coding required.

Over 60% of traffic is mobile these days, so your mobile view is every bit as important as your desktop view, or even more so.

Switching from desktop to mobile view to make mobile edits is easy.

So…..what do you think?

If you still aren’t sure which platform is right for your business, I recommend starting a free trial for the platforms you’re considering.

Peek under the hood and poke around. Take’em for a spin. See which one feels more intuitive to you.

I’m quite confident Squarespace will come out a winner.

If you made it this far in the post, you’re at least considering a website change. If I can say one last thing, it’s that the platform you choose matters. You know the saying that the spouse you choose or boss you work under has an outsize influence on your life?

I firmly believe your website builder can have an outsized affect on your business.

If you end up with a platform where you feel like you need a graphic design or tech degree to make it work, it’s going to hold back your business and you will be frustrated.

Why do I think this? Because I’ve seen it. I’ve seen people with dreams for a business of their own give up because they couldn’t get past the backend knowledge required to get their site where it needed to be to support their business.

On the other hand, with a user-friendly platform where EVERYTHING you need has been crafted to work together seamlessly, launching and maintaining your number one digital asset is a whole lot easier.

You’ll be surprised and delighted at how seamless the Squarespace experience is, and how fast you’ll progress at building your business website.

If you have any questions about Squarespace or anything website related, just shoot me an email. I’m always happy to help!
